Perth International Airport

Between 2014 and 2016 I was contracted to produce file ready designs for two large areas at the international Arrivals and Departures at Perth Airport Pty Ltd. With employment agent FORM, two large scale vinyl prints were installed on multiple glass panels, one 1.5 x 54 metres in the arrivals baggage claim area and a second on larger scale multiple core wall glass panels of 3 x 64 metres starting at departures and lined the walls leading to the international departure gates, a meandering 3 x 64 metres. I sourced and employed specialist photographer to document my work in high res, a graphic designer to work with and to submit concept designs using given elevations in 2d and produced further 3d for clearer communication and sourced a printing specialist for fabrication of final work. Multiple site visits enabled clear communication and the finessing of the aesthetic requirements of my design as part of the guiding principles of the Perth Art program at Perth International Airport. Any changes needed to the colour and composition of the work was a very well communicated exchange. I worked independently on computer graphic program and communicated with public art consultant at FORM.

 The brief was a positive entry and departure experience for commuters and travellers that was to be colourful to offset the neutral tones of the interior design features. I was provided high resolution digital compositions based on my paintings for two large scale independent works.

Conceptual development was based on the changing light in the location of the airport, the views out to the horizon looking over the runways, and the night and day effect of a 24-hour airport. The glazed wall installation for the Arrivals was titled ‘Night / Day’, evoking the captivating changing light over a 24-hour period, starting with the blush of dawn, progressing to the blues of mid-morning through to the soft golden hues of a moody dusk.
