about

Penny Coss's artistic practice is characterised by its flexibility, open-ended nature, and responsiveness, demonstrating a readiness to be influenced and shaped by the specificities of site or situation.

Committed to exploring geological phenomena, Penny Coss employs stratigraphic thinking to examine the complex entanglements of site-specific situatedness. Through the material strata of her fieldwork, studio, archive, historical documents, records, and artifacts, she responds to non-human agency with a focus on embodied interconnectivity and formal reflection.

Penny’s work increasingly refuses categorical distinctions, operating fluidly through concept and materiality , often incorporating painting and drawing, text and textile, video and performance. For her shows, she assembles them into expansive installations, setting individual parts in relation to each other, which draws on feminist epistemologies.
