Stratigraphic Thinking 2024 intersects drawing, sculptural textiles and video and serves to extend thematic threads related to situated fieldwork, the archive, and material experimentation. It presents the outcome of situated fieldwork, archival exploration, and material experimentation, which considers the possibility of stratigraphic thinking as assemblages and deassemblages of time, location, and matter.
My work engages with concepts of stratigraphy having undertaken fieldwork across two environments of the sedimentary geology of stromatolites. Stromatolites, described as living rocks , form through photosynthesis, and play a central role in my explorations of entanglements of stratigraphy and more than human agency. Situated fieldwork alongside stromatolites has enabled me to uncover intricate processes and forces that shape the installation of my work as notions of assemblages and de assemblages in stratigraphic terms.
